Reseña

The question of how life began on our planet millions of years ago has long captured the attention of scientists. The first set of testable hypotheses about the origin of life on Earth was proposed by the Russian biochemist Alexandr I. Oparin (1894–1980) and the British scientist John B. S. Haldane (1892–1964). Oparin first presented his ideas in 1922 and published them in 1924.
Oparin’s theory was based on the notion that the primitive atmosphere of the Earth was very different from today’s, and that energy was abundant on the young planet. To explore his ideas, he developed experimental models known as coacervates—colloidal systems composed of diverse macromolecules that could have formed under certain conditions in an aqueous environment and gradually evolved into cells with true membranes and other characteristics of living organisms.
