English 2
These are a few of my favorite things
English 2. _These are a few of my favorite things_ is part of the set of study programs that shape the new pedagogical foundation of the New Mexican School (NEM). This work represents a profound renewal of the educational approach to English language teaching, aimed at fostering the integral development of students through a humanistic, inclusive, critical, and intercultural perspective.
The book presents a pedagogical proposal grounded in the Social Practices of Language (SPL) approach. A central axis of the book is the recognition and appreciation of students’ linguistic repertoires—including Spanish and Indigenous languages—as legitimate and valuable resources for learning English. This vision promotes linguistic justice and educational equity, while fostering awareness of Mexico’s linguistic and cultural diversity as a source of identity and strength.
The book also includes comprehensive didactic orientations designed to guide teachers in developing creative, reflective, and contextually relevant lesson plans. Regarding assessment, the book highlights both diagnostic and formative perspectives.
In essence, this book provides a robust theoretical and practical framework for English language education in upper secondary schools. It transcends utilitarian conceptions of the language, positioning English as a means for social transformation, intercultural dialogue, and critical thought. As such, it constitutes a significant contribution, aligned with the principles of inclusion, social justice, respect for diversity, and the construction of a global and humanistic citizenship envisioned by the New Mexican School.
