The Teaching of Phonetics and Phonology: Research on pedagogical and linguistic aspects is the
second book which content is based on different projects that students and professors from the
Maestría en Estudios de las Lenguas y Culturas Inglesas (MELCI), at the Centro Universitario de
Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades of the Universidad de Guadalajara have carried out in recent
years.
This time around the contents are related to the teaching of phonetics and phonology in the
teaching and learning of the English language. It focuses on Critical Pedagogics in regards to the
perception of English accents that teachers to become have, it also explores how a textbook series
presents pronunciation and the allocated time to each activity. Then, it presents action research
and experimentation on how segmentals and suprasegmentals are taught in two teaching settings:
secondary school and the teaching of General English far adult students. Finally, it explores how
suprasegmental fe atures could be implemented to teach, learn or do research about Mexican
Sign Language or LSM by its Spanish name.
